Cinkarna Celje Completes Roster with Signing of Raneem Elgedawy

Cinkarna Celje has officially completed its roster for the upcoming season with the signing of Raneem Elgedawy (191 cm, 1997), a power forward/center from Egypt. With this addition, Elgedawy becomes the first player in WABA League history to represent her country, Egypt.

Elgedawy began the 2025–26 season as a starter for Al Fatat in the Kuwaiti D1 League. In the Arab Club Championship she ranked third among all players in scoring across seven games with an average of 29.6 points per game, while at the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) she again finished third in scoring over six games with 18.7 points per game, led the competition in rebounding with 18.6 rebounds per game and topped the blocks charts with 1.6 per game, adding 2.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 47.9 percent from the field, 46.4 percent from three-point range (second-best in the competition) and 64.2 percent from the free-throw line.

In October 2025, Elgedawy signed with Al Ahly Cairo in the Egyptian Super League, where she likewise took a starting role. Over 13 games, she led the entire league in scoring with 21.1 points per game, ranked fourth in rebounding with 11.2 rebounds per game, and finished third in steals with 2.4 per game, adding 4.8 assists per game while shooting 50.5 percent from the field, 29.3 percent from three-point range, and 62.3 percent from the free-throw line. Across her Superleague appearances, she also ranked fifth in rebounding with 10.7 per game, alongside 2.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game, on 55.6 percent shooting from the field, 26.3 percent from three-point range, and 60.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Earlier in 2025, Elgedawy was named Most Valuable Player of the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA), leading Al Ahly Sporting Club — the club she grew up supporting — to an undefeated championship title on home soil in Cairo. In the championship final, she recorded 29 points and 18 rebounds.

Elgedawy spent her collegiate career at Western Kentucky University. At the professional level, she has competed for Al Ahly in the Egyptian Super League and has represented the Egyptian Women’s National Team for a decade, including appearances at several editions of the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship and in FIBA World Cup qualifying.
