The game opened on a high note for the hosts as Tatum Forbes scored the opening basket, giving Sea Stars their first—and what would prove to be their only—lead of the night. Maribor, entering the matchup as the heavy favorite, immediately neutralized the threat. Unleashing a crushing 14-point run, the visitors completely seized momentum and took control of the scoreboard.
In the remainder of the contest, Sea Stars fought back, but Maribor’s defense held firm. The home side trimmed the deficit to a single-digit margin twice, but the visitors quickly answered each push.
A defining element of the matchup lay in the structural depth of both rosters. Maribor’s bench unit outproduced the hosts, adding efficient scoring and playmaking that kept Sea Stars from ever mounting a comeback. While Sea Stars leaned heavily on starter Vanja Kaludjerovic (16 points in nearly 39 minutes) and Forbes (12 points), their bench contributed little.
In sharp contrast, Maribor’s second unit provided elite spark and efficiency: Lana Iseinoski stretched the floor brilliantly, knocking down four three-pointers for 12 points. Tjasa Levstik added an efficient 8 points in under nine minutes, shooting 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Anais Gobec dished out 8 assists.
The stats tell a story of Maribor’s interior prowess and superior ball movement. Maribor shot a staggering 67% (18-27) from the 2-point range, anchored by starter Veronika Ferjancic, who scored 18 points (9-10 2PT) and grabbed 11 rebounds, earning a game-high efficiency rating of 32.
Though Maribor struggled from deep (9-for-45, 20%), they dominated the glass with 46 total rebounds (19 offensive) compared to Sea Stars’ 35. Maribor’s unselfish play also led to 25 total team assists, consistently unlocking the home team’s defense and keeping a safe margin through the final buzzer.
