WABA 2 Resumes in Herceg Novi as New Teams Debut

The WABA 2 2026/27 season is set to resume with an exciting tournament in Herceg Novi. For the first time in the competition’s history, the matches will be hosted at the SRC Igalo sports hall, marking a brand new venue on the WABA 2 map.

The tournament will feature the highly anticipated senior debuts of two Montenegrin clubs: tournament hosts Primorje and Sea Stars from Tivat. Joining them in Herceg Novi are two familiar Slovenian sides from Ljubljana, Ilirija and Jezica.

Official Season Opener for Montenegrin Debuts

For both Primorje and Sea Stars, this tournament marks the official start of their 2026/27 season, as the Montenegrin national championship has not yet tipped off. While these clubs are new to the senior WABA 2 league, they boast an incredibly successful track record in the WABA youth categories:

Primorje famously claimed the WABA U15 championship title in 2022 during the final tournament right on their home court in Herceg Novi.

Sea Stars have steadily climbed the ranks, finishing as the WABA U15 runners-up in 2023 and reaching the WABA U17 Final Four in 2024.

The Slovenian clubs arrive in Montenegro looking to build consistency early in the season.

Ilirija, the two-time WABA 2 champions, opened their regional campaign in Graz with a balanced 1–1 record. On the domestic front, they recently celebrated a major morale-boosting away victory against Cinkarna Celje in the return leg of the national cup.

In the Slovenian national championship, both Ilirija and Ježica currently hold identical 1–2 records and will look to use this regional tournament to find their peak form.

With youth academy powerhouses stepping up to the senior stage and experienced former champions hunting for wins, the Herceg Novi tournament promises top-tier regional basketball action.
